A smokebox, also called HMD / Heat Management Device, serves as an attachment where the shisha charcoal is placed, instead of the usual aluminum foil. A shisha smokebox thus saves you a lot of time because you don't have to use shisha aluminum foil. The smokebox is simply placed on the bowl (Phunnel or multi-hole bowl) and then heats your shisha tobacco. The heat regulation of the shisha tobacco is very easy to control, as you can decide how much shisha charcoal you put into your shisha smokebox. Some shisha smokeboxes also have a lid for more precise heat regulation. Another very advantageous aspect is that with a shisha smokebox, the charcoal is not drawn into the tobacco as much, as the ventilation holes are usually located next to the shisha charcoal.

• Do I smoke more with a Phunnel or with a multi-hole bowl?

How do I best clean an HMD?

As soon as a shisha smokebox is used in a setup where the tobacco has direct contact with the HMD, it quickly gets dirty. The burnt shisha tobacco adheres directly to the HMD. But that's no problem at all! We'll tell you how to easily clean your smokebox. After smoking, you should of course let it cool down first. Once the smokebox has cooled down, you can simply scrape off the tobacco residues with a small knife or a fork.

After you have removed the coarse residues, you can clean the smokebox with an HMD cleaning brush. Depending on how dirty the smokebox is, it may not get clean immediately. To bring the smokebox back to an almost new condition, we recommend soaking it in a container of water for a few hours. Afterwards, the dirt can be easily removed with the smokebox cleaning brush. If you only have one smokebox at home, it is advisable to soak it overnight in the container of water.
