As of June 1, 2022, manufacturers of shisha tobacco are only allowed to package their products in packs with a maximum quantity of 25 g. Remaining stock produced before this date may still be sold until June 1, 2023.

This change was stipulated in the Tobacco Tax Ordinance and affects water pipe tobacco according to § 1 Paragraph 2b of the law. This has various consequences for shisha smokers. On the one hand, smoking becomes more expensive, as you now have to buy more small packs to get the desired quantity. On the other hand, increased packaging leads to more waste. In addition, some of the most popular tobacco varieties are no longer available in large quantities, but only in 25 g packages.
